Tribeca Sailing offers an elegant tour of New York Harbor aboard TARA, a classic 1964 Hinckley Custom Pilot 35 sailboat designed by the famous Sparkman and Stephens design team — one of only 117 Pilot 35s ever built, and one of just five custom-labeled models. Founded in 2013 by Captain David Caporale, a USCG Licensed Master who learned to sail on Long Island’s south shore at age 16, the business departs from North Cove Marina in Lower Manhattan.
Public sails run 2 hours, up to 6 passengers, seven days a week with five daily departures, passing Freedom Tower, Governors Island, Ellis Island, and the Statue of Liberty. Guests are welcome to bring their own food and drinks. TARA’s stable full keel lets her glide effortlessly through the harbor, and her handsome varnished wood interior offers a comfortable retreat if the weather turns.
Public tour rates run $95-$115 per person (up to 6 passengers), depending on the day and departure time, with gift certificates available. Private tours (up to 6 people) start at $480, well suited to birthdays, anniversaries, engagements, corporate team-building events, and other special occasions.
The captain team includes David Caporale, Sam Boyer (a lifelong Lake Michigan sailor), John (a Royal Yachting Association Yachtmaster and Caribbean/Mediterranean sailing instructor), and John D. (organizes sailing trips worldwide and sails Long Island Sound) — all USCG Licensed Masters.
