Sail Sand Point is Seattle’s Community Boating Center, a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to making sailing and small boats accessible for all, based at Magnuson Park on Lake Washington. The organization brings the joy and life-enhancing benefits of sailing and paddling to people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds through open boating rentals, camps, classes, and racing programs.
Open boating rentals cover both sailing/windsurfing and paddling equipment, including kayaks, paddleboards, and sailboats, with sessions and season passes available. A 2.5-hour sailing or windsurfing session runs $55, or $195 for a 5-session pass, while a 2-hour paddling session runs $45, or $110 for a 5-session pass; a shareable Group Paddling Punch Pass offers 7 sessions for $180. Season passes, valid for one year, range from a $245 Adult Paddling Pass (all paddle craft) up to a $330 Adult Unlimited Pass (all sailboats and paddle craft), with a $500 Family Unlimited Pass covering 2 named adults and up to 2 named youth, a $90 Youth Unlimited Pass for those 17 and under, and a $1 Opti Pass for kids 14 and under. Students, seniors, and military members get a 50% discount on season passes, while people with disabilities and Park residents get 75% off.
Beyond rentals, Sail Sand Point runs youth camps, adult classes, private lessons, adaptive sailing programs, STEM programming, and youth racing teams spanning middle school through summer travel teams. The organization also offers boat storage in its boat yard and hosts community events throughout the summer, including a popular “SUP with a Pup” evening with free paddle craft rentals for anyone bringing a dog.
Summer rental hours run Friday through Monday, 1pm to sunset (until Labor Day), with weekend hours from 11am to sunset; office hours run Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm.
