Cascade Lake operates on a first-come, first-served basis at the park’s Day Use Area, which includes full-service bathrooms, a playground, a warm sandy beach for easy entry with kids, and a designated swimming area. Rental options include row boats, canoes, a hydrobike, stand-up paddleboards, paddle boats, and single and double kayaks, with most boats and boards priced at $26 an hour and half-day and full-day price breaks also available. Beepers are handed out during short waits, giving guests time to grab a snack, refill water bottles, or apply sunscreen before heading out. Life jackets are included free with every rental.

Mountain Lake, widely considered the best freshwater lake on Orcas Island, features three islands and crystal-clear water, offering a more adventurous experience recommended for experienced boaters. Unlike Cascade Lake, Mountain Lake rentals are prepaid online reservations only, with canoes, kayaks, row boats, and SUP boards renting out quickly due to high demand; amenities here are limited to outhouses and parking, with no food concessions.

Back at Cascade Lake, the on-site Sugar Shack serves 12 flavors of local Lopez Island ice cream on gourmet waffle cones, along with homemade strawberry lemonade, iced tea, espresso, paninis, hot dogs, and grilled cheeses, plus a small store stocking sunscreen, lake floaties, beach buckets, sun hats, and swimwear.
