Alpha Angler Charters is a small, family-owned ocean fishing charter and river guide service based in La Push, Washington, specializing in halibut, lingcod, rockfish, salmon, and steelhead across the Olympic Peninsula. The captain has been fishing the waters off Washington’s coast since childhood, calling La Push home port and building the business around decades of local knowledge on both the ocean and the peninsula’s rivers.
Offshore trips run aboard the Alpha Angler, a 31-foot Rampage Sportfisher that operates out of La Push in spring before moving to Westport for the summer season. The boat comfortably and safely fishes parties of up to six, holds over 250 gallons of fuel, and runs on dual 315-horsepower Yanmar diesels, giving it a dry ride at speeds upwards of 30 knots. Onboard amenities include a full bathroom, galley, and heated cabin, along with Furuno navigation, radar, and autopilot. Halibut trips head about 30 miles offshore to some of the best halibut grounds in the Northwest, using Daiwa Tanacom 750 electric reels to help haul fish up from deep water, then shift to trophy lingcod once halibut limits are met. A dedicated offshore trip also targets big lingcod and rockfish in 600 to 900 feet of water at the edge of the canyons, while a lighter, family-friendly inshore trip uses freshwater-style bass fishing techniques with light spinning rods to target black rockfish near the surface.
On the river side, Alpha Angler Charters runs a Hyde drift boat and a 16-foot Aire raft with a custom frame for salmon and steelhead fishing across multiple Olympic Peninsula rivers. Spring brings King salmon trips, summer offers Coho, and fall targets big Chinook and Coho runs, while dedicated fly fishing trips are available for steelhead fanatics chasing the Peninsula’s native winter run, one of the last true native trophy steelhead fisheries left. Summer months also bring scenic river rafting trips on the Hoh River outside of Forks for those who want to enjoy the scenery without necessarily fishing.
Fish processing is available for an additional fee, and a $100 deposit secures a booking, valid for the full calendar year in the event a trip needs to be rescheduled.
